Job Description:
The Horticulture and Garden Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, development, and maintenance of all horticultural aspects of the property. This includes managing garden maintenance teams, ensuring the health and aesthetics of plants, and implementing sustainable horticultural practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Management and Supervision:
- Lead and supervise the garden maintenance team, including gardeners, landscapers, and horticulturists.
- Schedule and allocate tasks to ensure efficient and effective garden maintenance.
- Provide training and development opportunities for team members.
- Garden and Landscape Maintenance:
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules for lawns, gardens, trees, and other landscaping features.
- Ensure that all horticultural areas are maintained to the highest standards of aesthetics and health.
- Monitor and manage irrigation systems to ensure optimal watering practices.
- Plant Health and Care:
- Diagnose and treat plant diseases, pests, and other horticultural issues.
- Implement integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.
- Ensure the proper use of fertilizers, soil conditioners, and other horticultural products.
- Horticultural Planning and Design:
- Assist in the design and planning of new garden areas and renovation of existing ones.
- Select appropriate plant species for different garden zones, considering factors like climate, soil, and aesthetics.
- Develop and maintain detailed planting plans and records.
- Sustainability and Environmental Practices:
- Implement and promote sustainable gardening practices.
- Manage composting and waste reduction programs.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards.
- Budget and Resource Management:
- Prepare and manage the horticulture and garden maintenance budget.
- Source and procure plants, equipment, and supplies.
- Monitor expenditures and optimize the use of resources.
- Customer and Stakeholder Relations:
- Communicate with property owners, clients, and stakeholders to understand their requirements and preferences.
- Provide expert advice and recommendations on horticultural matters.
- Handle complaints and resolve issues related to garden maintenance.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all horticultural activities comply with health and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular safety training and audits.
- Maintain records of safety inspections and incidents.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Landscape Management, or related field.
- Proven experience in horticulture, garden maintenance, or landscaping, with a minimum of 5 years in a managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of plant species, horticultural practices, and landscape design.
- Proficiency in garden maintenance equipment and tools.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Certification in horticulture or landscape management is a plus.
